temperatures going to soar into the afternoon. starting off october in the hot side. mild around the bay area. the skies are clear . just a little hazy. 65 degrees. 63 in san ra fael. 62 in san jose. high pressure building strong . a weak off shore wind and the ridge starts to breakdown. today is going to be the hottest day of the week. these temperatures are going to soar by the afternoon. 93 in san jose. east bay that's where we're going to see the hottest temperatures. 103 in pleasant ton. inside the bay, the temperatures running into the 80s. none of these record breakers but still hot enough. next couple days changes. slow cooling tomorrow. drastic cooling by wednesday and thursday. next weekend, back to normal, partly cloudy, maxing

sun comes up. it was before dawn yesterday when the 23 foot fishing boat headed out. it was 10:30 when the boat got hit. >> they were hit by a wave that caught them by surprised. knocked all four subjects into the water. once they were in the water, they started getting pounded by additional waves and two actually made it to shore. and two are still outstanding. >> the coast guard used aircraft and boats to search for the two who are missing. the two who made it to shore were wearing life jackets. >> it is 4:32 now. police want some help in solving a freeway shooting southbound highway 101 closed at the holley street exist after the victim's car crashed along the off ramp there. red dodge charger that had been riddled with bullets. at least one of them hit by the

gunfire. it may have been near highway 92. also not clear whether any shots were fired from that charger that did crash. a san jose brawl left one man dead from a stabbing. dozens of people were fighting about 1:00 sunday morning. it was san jose's 34th murder of the year. 8 people died over an 11 day stretch back in august. >> this morning a trial gets underway for a woman accused of killing a nursing student. in a dispute over a boyfriend. lei disappeared in may of last year. her body was found four months later. tomorrow, the suspect in a mass shooting in oakland will be back in court. appear in a pretrial hearing. accused of

killing 7 people back in april. he has pleaded not guilty. if convicted he could get the death penalty. >> san francisco shoppers, bring your own bags today or going to cost you a little. a city wide ordinance banning the use of plastic bags will go into affect. affects only large super markets and pharmacies. if you don't have a bag, you'll be charged 10 cents for every bag you need. >> i think we should pay for the damage out there. and if we can just have that two second thought of saying i've got a bag i can reuse, that's great. >> every year more than 1 million plastic bags are pulled out of the waterways. other bay area headlines we're following, four cities in the bay area have high sales tax today. encreased by one-half of -- increased by one-half of 1%.

now at 8.75%. the sales tax in sonoma is up to 8.5%. all the increases were passed by the voters. more trains are being added to meet demand there. caltran will revive four discontinued trains. riders hit a new high in the month of june. no legislative release for 200,000 workers. jerry brown has vetoed legislation that would have provided other labor protections to 200,000 care givers, nannies in california. he rejected it because he believes the bill raises the number of unanswered questions. california is the first state to ban a controversial therapy aimed at making a gay minor

with explosives ran into a patrol of afghan and international forces. an afghan official, three americans and translator are among the dead. killed in an inside era tack over the weekend. a wave of violence killed 34 people this weekend in iraq. 25 came in car bombings and shootings in the baghdad area. a suicide car bomber killed five policeman at a checkpoint. the attacks are seen as a display of force. >> 4:47. we're following breaking news of la. it's a car chase even at this hour. started about 420. they are on highway 101. the driver has been going at least 100 miles per hour off and on. he gets off the freeway and back on. they are keeping an eye on this guy. the guy is wanted for felony evading of an officer.
